Primer has extensive experience building, rehabilitating and operating sanitary landfills using modern, internationally recognized techniques to avoid any potential negative impact on the environment. Primer constructs with acute sensitivity to the particular topography of a site, using land reclamation and remediation processes where appropriate. We use the full suite of protective base layers and coverings (sand, soil, geotextile etc.), as well as employing the latest in leachate collection and degasification systems. Achievements include the conversion of a 55-m high, 60,000-m2 waste mountain in Saida (an eyesore and health threat to residents and tourists) into a sanitary landfill and a landscaped public park, in partnership with Suez Environment from France and under the development of UNDP and Ministry of Environment, and also the Costa Brava Landfill, a major part of Beirut’s waste disposal infrastructure. This was developed and is operated according to international best practices, with flawless implementation of land reclamation, sea protection barriers and backfilling, as well as daily covers, leachate collection and final capping.
