The REHABILITATION OF SAIDA DUMP & CONSTRUCTION OF SAIDA SANITARY LANDFILL AND PUBLIC PARK was executed as joint venture with our partner SUEZ ENVIRONMENT. This project was to rehabilitate the existing Saida dump (1,500,000 m3 of solid waste) to solve an environmentally unacceptable situation and to use the land for the benefit of the Saida Municipality. The procedure of the rehabilitation is landfill mining, which includes the treatment of excavated waste at a site to produce secondary construction material in compliance with local and EU standards. Implemented with the Ministry of the Environment and coordinated very closely with the Municipality of Saida, project was 100% completed. The trash mountain is gone; all the waste quantities were treated and properly disposed of. The construction of a sanitary landfill with three cells, perfectly isolated with leachate and gas management, was accomplished. The landfill was capped with a geo-membrane liner, which is protected by a layer of fine material that is, in turn, topped by a layer of artificial grass. A green park of 33,500m2 was constructed with landscape, plantations, irrigation and drainage networks, etc. An awareness campaign was held in Saida targeting schools students, school principals and local NGOs.
